Fawcett House is the boys' boarding house at Saint Felix and it houses about 30 boys aged between 10 and 16.  The house is run by house parents, Mr Tim O’Connell and Mrs Laura O'Connell, and they are supported by other school teachers and GAP students.  There is a daily routine in the house and every effort is made to cater for all the boys' social and pastoral care and allowances are made within the routine for extra-curricular activities such as sport and drama.  There is a full-time house matron who takes care of domestic issues including bedding, washing and ironing and the school has a nurse based in the sanatorium, who takes care of all the medical needs - she is on call 24 hours a day if required.

Boys are encouraged to take care of their own studies, the younger ones are guided by house staff and encouraged to develop autonomy in their studies over time.  There is a dedicated prep session each evening, all boarders, except prefects work downstairs in the prep room, supervised by the duty member of staff, GAP student and a prefect.

The whole house ethos is based on respect, with so many different lifestyles and ages being catered for it is important that boys realise they live in a community and need to be wary of the way they move around and act in the house.

Fawcett House has a TV room, complete with the full Sky package including movies and sports, surround sound and a 'big screen' which is often used for sporting events and movies.  There is also a games and prep room, complete with a newly recovered pool table and a table tennis table.  A TV is also available for use with games consoles.

The house also has two kitchens, one with simple amenities such as a microwave, kettle and toaster and a more equipped kitchen for use by prefects with a cooker.  The house has two laundries; one for use by the matron and houseparents , the other for students in Year 11 to do their own washing, drying and ironing.

Younger boarders share bedrooms (typically three or four to a room) whereas older boarders (Year 10) are in rooms of two, and Year 11s have their own private study bedrooms.  Fawcett House has wi-fi throughout the house and housestaff are more than happy to help set up personal laptops to work on the school system.

All rooms downstairs and bedrooms on the middle floor have been recently decorated by the housparents during holidays with the boys choosing the colours, new beds and curtains have been put in these rooms too.  We  encourage boys to personalise their rooms as they would do at home with posters, pictures and by using their own bed linen.  We actively encourage boarders to have friends from school to stay at the weekend as they would at home, hopefully bringing their boarding experience closer to home.

At the weekend we offer a range of activities, both on and off of the school site.  We regularly use the school's onsite facilities such as sports hall, tennis courts, squash courts, swimming pool, climbing wall and our extensive grass playing pitches.

Offsite activies can include, but not exclusively, cinema, ice skaing, roller skating, go-karting, ten-pin bowling, laser quest and shopping trips, whether these be to Southwold for basics or to Lowestoft or Norwich for more exclusive items.

We do hope that the boys enjoy their boarding experience and we are never far away should the boys need to talk to us, we also aim to keep regular e-mail and telephone communication with parents and guardians.  For more information on boys' boarding please contact Mr and Mrs O'Connell on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  We have a few beds available for flexi boarding, please contact us to arrange this, prices are from £10 to £30 depending on the reason for boarding.
