New lighthouse for Dragon's Nursery

Southwold can now boast two lighthouses – although one would not be any good for directing ships.
The Dragons Nursery at Saint Felix School has unveiled its brand new ‘play’ lighthouse, designed and created by the school’s maintenance team.

The lighthouse features ladders, ropes, a slide and differently shaped windows, all offering children educational play.

Mr Keith Seaman, Lighthouse Attendant at the Southwold Lighthouse, officially opened the new feature: “The children’s lighthouse is absolutely beautiful. Southwold Lighthouse is such an important part of the area, and it’s great that Saint Felix are teaching their children about what lighthouses are for and what they do.

“Lighthouses are sadly being decommissioned, so it’s important that we inform people about their historical value in this country. Saint Felix’s lighthouse will do this in a fun and interesting way.”

Parents were invited to the grand opening, and tea and cakes were served to celebrate.

Mr David Ward, Headmaster at Saint Felix, added: “The children are very excited about the brand new feature in their play area, and it’s fantastic that we can incorporate a local piece of history into our school. Our talented maintenance team have done a superb job, and we thank Mr Seaman for opening our nursery’s lighthouse.”

Once opened, children from Saint Felix’s nursery were delighted to take full advantage of all the new lighthouse offered.
