Physical Education

Alongside the academic curriculum, the department of Physical Education exists to allow all pupils to enjoy and experience a wide range of activities in the hope that they will see the benefit of a healthy and active lifestyle and continue with sport in their later years.

Sport is split into three complementary areas: PE, Games and Swimming.

• PE lessons involve children exploring their creativity through Gymnastics and Dance, with a focus on core skills.  We also study Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Badminton and Athletics.

• The Games element revolves around the major sports of the term.  In the Michaelmas Term the boys play rugby while the girls play netball; in the Lent Term the boys play hockey and football and the girls play hockey; in the Summer Term the boys play cricket and the girls play rounders.

• The children have structured swimming lessons all through the year in our excellent 25m indoor heated swimming pool.

The children learn about the importance of warming up and down, stretching and how the body is affected by exercise.

The Junior School has the use of the excellent sports facilities and grounds at Saint Felix.  There is a superb modern Sports Hall with Squash Courts.  There is also a gymnasium with sprung floor, a superb 25m swimming pool and an equestrian course.  The school is set amongst 80 acres of beautiful heritage coast.

Matches are played in the major sports against local schools at all levels.  We enter county and national competitions in many sports.

Our primary aim is to get the best out of each child, and to develop an enthusiasm for sport which will last a lifetime.
