Key Stage 3: Practical Physical Education at Saint Felix
Sport and Physical Education play a central role to life at Saint Felix. All pupils are encouraged to become actively involved in physical activity either through the curriculum or the extensive extra curriculum programme on offer. Sport is undeniably an important feature of life at Saint Felix where achievement is recognised, success celebrated and effort applauded.
The Physical Education department at Saint Felix aims to provide pupils with positive experiences in both the individual and team aspects of Physical Education and Sport. We believe all pupils have the potential to achieve in the subject and as a department we strive to provide all pupils with the opportunity to develop physically, acquire new skills and appreciate the importance of good health, cooperating with others and adopting a positive yet sportsmanlike attitude. We attempt to foster a lifelong interest and involvement in sport, health and fitness. Pupils also gain the opportunity to further extend their knowledge of health, fitness and sport through GCSE and A Level Physical Education.
As well as timetabled lessons students are also given the opportunity to play fixtures against other local schools and develop their skills through team practices held at lunchtime and after school. All are encouraged to participate locally at club level and if talent is shown, are encouraged to trial at county and regional level.
A balance exists between the pursuit of excellence and the provision of ‘sport for all’. Each and every pupil from Years 7 -13 receive a dedicated double lesson of Games each week, and the younger pupils also receive a double swimming and double P.E. lesson each week.
