Art

The visual arts are central to life at Saint Felix. We have been awarded the Gold Arts Mark twice as recognition for the quality and range of our provision for all students. Our three studio spaces are spacious, light, airy and well equipped.

We aim to enhance our pupils understanding of the visual arts through regular visits to galleries and museums.  Every October we visit either Barcelona or Madrid for six days to see the arts in another country.

Attendance at life drawing classes is expected of all students studying art at A level. Within a supportive environment we encourage students to work on a large scale, to experiment freely with techniques and learn new skills in order to develop their own personal visual language. Each student can gain the self confidence and ability needed to express themselves creatively. The department is always available to seniors to use in their free study time in order for them to finish off coursework and develop their work further.

At  AS and A level we offer several options within the art and design framework – fine art, textiles, 3D, photography and unendorsed. At AS and A level we also offer history of art. More than one of these may be studied. For AS and A level a large portfolio of coursework is produced plus an externally set project again set by AQA.
