At Key Stage 5, (AS and A2) the course uses the new 2008 Biology specification.

The first year consists of AS Biology and consists of three units of work: Cells, Exchange and Transport; Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health; and Practical Skills in Biology 1. The first unit is examined in January whereas both units are examined in June. Students have their own textbook and CD ROM called ‘Exam Café’ giving learning support – revision guidelines, examination questions, examiners’ tips etc.

  

The second year, referred to as A2, consists of three units: Communication, Homeostasis and Energy; Control, Genomes and Environment; and Practical Skills Biology 2.

The department has a distinguished reputation in securing placements of students to various universities.
