Library

The library is situated in the heart of the school buildings between the cloisters and the gardens. Over the last few years there has been considerable investment in new stock for the library, particularly in Keystage 3 fiction suitable for both girls and boys. Many of the books are displayed cover out to catch the eye and add a bright note to the shelves. There is a separate collection of books for quick reading or for pupils who find reading challenging. A new introduction has been a collection of graphic novels, many of which tell the stories of the classics of English Literature. Older pupils can access a collection of good contemporary fiction and a wide range of English and American classic literature.

The curriculum is supported by a range of non-fiction divided into two collections, ‘Starting Point’and ‘Moving on’. The first is aimed at pupils looking for an easy or more pictorial introduction to a subject. ‘Moving On’ is the collection of academic textbooks which support study at GCSE or Sixth Form level.

There are over 30 study spaces in the library which are available for private study and quiet reading throughout the day. The library is staffed in the afternoons by a professional Librarian who can help with both information enquiries and choice of reading books.
