Bronte House
In the last year of the Early Years Foundation Stage children enter the Reception Class during the academic year they turn five. Their classroom, along with Years 1 and 2, is located in Bronte House above the Dragons’ Nursery. Light and airy rooms with separate Art and I.C.T. facilities welcome the youngest pupils to Saint Felix School.
Small classes, specialist Early Years Teachers and Teaching Assistants ensure all children receive individual attention and support. These firm foundations ensure a positive, successful start to school life.
In Reception the children begin to read and write and work with numbers. Their social, emotional and physical wellbeing is paramount and forms an integrated part of the school day. Children are nurtured, listened to and valued.
The Year 1 and 2 teachers work closely together to plan exciting topic based activities across all curriculum areas. Full use is made of the wonderful grounds surrounding the school and lessons are taken outdoors whenever possible. Children enjoy practical, hands on activities that aim to broaden the mind and encourage questions about the world around them. Individual progress and achievements are recognised and celebrated, fostering a sense of self worth and confidence.
Specialist French, Music, Swimming and Games teachers enable the children’s artistic, creative and sporting talents to develop to their maxim potential. Excellent all weather sports facilities, including a 25 metre pool, allow the children to enjoy physical activities year round. Our aim is to produce happy, well rounded children with the confidence to move forward to Key Stage 2.
Clough House
Children enter Clough House in Year 3, the year they become eight, and remain in the Junior School until the end of Year 6. Our aim is to produce happy, mature, inquiring children with a wide range of interests. The Junior School gives them the confidence to make the most of every opportunity put before them and prepares them for the new challenges that Senior School will bring.
The curriculum widens and the pupils continue to benefit from small class sizes and specialist teaching staff. Much of the emphasis in Clough is on breadth of experience and multi-sensory learning at every stage. Tracking and assessment information is used extensively to build pupil profiles and set meaningful targets for each individual. Hand-in-hand with the children’s academic development is a wide and varied co-curricular programme aimed at developing confidence, creativity and individuality. Each year the Summer Term Activity Week and annual crabbing competitions are always eagerly awaited.
