Junior School (Bronte House)

Bronte House caters for all your child’s educational needs from Reception to the end of Key Stage 1.
Â
Children enter the Reception class in the September of the academic year in which they turn five. As some children will only just have had their fourth birthday, half days are available to start with and sessions can be increased as and when the child is ready. Small class sizes and dedicated, fully qualified teachers and teaching assistants ensure that every child’s individual needs are met, both educationally and emotionally.

Bronte House shares a wonderful stand alone building with the Dragons’ Nursery within the grounds of Saint Felix School and as such provides a happy, caring, wrap around environment with all the benefits of a large, well established site of some 53 acres of conservation coastline.
Bronte House consists of large, bright, sunny classrooms. As well as a separate computer suite, art room and messy area, Enhanced Learning room, changing area, washroom and library, each class has its own ‘reading room’ where the children can master the complexities of the English language free from distraction and interruption.

The Reception class marks the end of the Early Years' Foundation Stage and teaching staff work closely with parents to nurture and encourage each child as they take their first steps towards a more formal based education in Form 1. Emergent writing, understanding sounds, words and language and early number skills are all taught through fun, play based activities with achievable targets for individual children.
Pupils in Form 1 (Year 1) and Lower II (Year 2) enjoy a topic based curriculum that provides links across all subject areas.
English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, I.C.T., Art and Design, Games, Gymnastics, Religious Education, Personal Health and Social Education, French, Music, Dance and Swimming are offered throughout the year with the emphasis on developing the ‘whole’ child into a well rounded, confident, happy individual.
Â
Bronte House enjoys a sunny, south facing position on one of the most beautiful sites in Suffolk. The large, secure playground boasts an outside classroom area, swings, wooden climbing frame with slide, new specially designed adventure trail and garden areas for growing plants and vegetables. Scooters, hoops, balls and skipping ropes help to enhance the play equipment and ensure there is something on offer for every child to enjoy.

Throughout the year pupils enjoy the opportunity to take part in trips that support the curriculum and help to underpin their learning. Recent outings have included visits to Framlingham and Orford castles, Benacre Wood field study centre, Inspire science centre in Norwich, Southwold Lifeboat and Lighthouse and Kessingland wildlife park.
Bronte House welcomes visits from prospective pupils and their parents at any time. Trial days are offered so that children can have the opportunity to experience first hand all that our wonderful school has to offer.
