Chapel

The Chapel is used by the whole school, and all pupils have a service in the Chapel at least once a week.  Although the Nursery don’t normally come to the Chapel building for services, the Chaplain visits Little Dragons and Big Dragons in Bronte House once every half term for a short Bible story or talk.

The weekly service for the Senior School is led by the Chaplain.  Although the theme varies from week to week, the structure of the service remains the same and includes a hymn, prayers and a short talk concerning the Christian faith.  Major events in the Anglican Church calendar such as Advent, Lent, Ascension, Pentecost as well as Christmas and Easter are marked with special services.  There are also special celebratory services for Saint Felix Day and the highlight of every summer term is an Animal Blessing, where all creatures great and small gather in the School Sports Hall for a service and blessing.  Approximately once a term a Eucharist service is held where those who wish are able receive communion or a blessing.  Although the weekly service is short, it provides pupils with a valuable opportunity for quiet reflection at the start of the day.

Once every two years, if there is sufficient demand, a Confirmation Service is held in the Chapel and is led by one of the two Bishops in this Anglican Diocese.  Candidates who wish to be confirmed are required to attend confirmation classes beforehand to ensure that they have a full understanding of what they are undertaking.

Chapel Guild provides an opportunity for anyone who wants, to think more about the Christian Faith.  This runs as a weekly after school activity for the Senior School and offers hot chocolate, chocolate biscuits and chat in the Chapel.  The members of this also help in various chapel services throughout the year.

A short service is led by the Chaplain each Sunday in the Chapel for the Boarders.  This usually takes place at 5.30pm for approximately 20 minutes and follows a similar pattern to the weekday service.  All the boarders except the Upper Sixth are required to attend this.
