Sport at Saint Felix

The Physical Education department aims to allow all pupils to enjoy and experience a wide range of activities in the hope that they will see the benefit of a healthy and active lifestyle and continue with sport in their later years.

Sport at Saint Felix is split into three complementary areas: PE, Games and Swimming.

In the Junior school the activities covered are:

The Games' element is the same throughout the school and is focused on the major sports of the term; Rugby, Football Tennis and Cricket for the boys and Netball, Hockey,Tennis and Rounders for the girls. Saint Felix plays competitive and training fixtures against most of the major public and some state schools in the surrounding area.  We enter local, regional and national competitions in most of these sports.

The children have structured swimming lessons right through from Big Dragons to Year 9 in our excellent 25m indoor heated swimming pool.  Most of the early years' teaching is focused upon water confidence and stroke development and later developing personal survival and lifesaving skills and playing water polo in the senior school.

Within all lessons, the children learn about the importance of warming up and down, stretching and how the body is affected by exercise.

We have developed the exam-based element of Physical Education with approximately 30 children covering the Edexcel GCSE Physical Education course and around 10 students following the Edexcel AS and A2 courses.

The department makes use of the excellent sports facilities and grounds at Saint Felix.  There is a superb modern Sports Hall and two newly refurbished squash courts.  We also have a dance studio with a sprung floor that is used for dance, gymnastics and health related fitness.  The school also has an equestrian course set amongst its 80 acres of beautiful heritage coast.

Saint Felix boasts a very successful swimming programme.  We currently have over 100 children registered on our out-of-school 'Learn to Swim' programme and 60 athletes in our squad programme.  'Learn to Swim' students and squad members come from the school and the wider community.  The Saint Felix School Swimming Squad competes in many county and regional competitions and has a growing number of swimmers gaining National Qualifying times. The club regularly wins medals at the National Championships and currently has six swimmers on the England development programme, one on the Scottish development programme and one on the Great Britain programme.  We recently had a swimmer break a British junior record, compete at the European Junior Championships, the World School games and another swimmer break two Scottish junior records.  To visit the swimming club website please click here.
