Saint Felix Ski Trip  to Jungfrau in Switzerland

This year's trip took us to the beautiful Jungfrau region of Switzerland dominated by the impressive Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains.  We stayed at the luxurious (for skiing trip standards) Carlton Europe hotel in Interlaken, a half hour train ride from the slopes.  There were 47 in our group this year with three quarters of the group having been on at least two previous Saint Felix skiing trips!

We flew to Geneva, and having heard stories of the huge amount of snow which had fallen over the past week, we were very excited.  We had an early rise for ski fit on the Sunday morning followed by the stunning, winding train ride up the valley to Kleine Scheidegg which sits below the famous North Face of the Eiger.  The visibility was so poor however that we could only see about 20 metres in front of us!  After the groups were sorted out, skiing began.

The beginners worked extremely hard throughout the week with Cusi and by the end were flying down red runs with confidence; fantastic!  The advanced children’s group were instructed by Manu who encouraged the children to improve their technique. However, he also challenged them with off-piste skiing, jumps and a huge amount of terrain covered, including skiing off the top of the Schilthorn in Murren.  The other two groups consisted of a mix of adults and a few children skiing with their parents. The instructors, Sue and Michael, were great at showing the groups the full extent of skiing on offer and how to improve their technique.

After two days on the slopes we were sad to see Charlotte leave after she broke her leg on the morning of the second day.  She was extremely brave and headed back to the UK with her father.  It was great to see her on returning to Saint Felix as she waited to meet us off the bus.

Our après-ski activities involved heated competition at curling on the second night with Charlotte, Helena and Mr Marsden making up the winning team.  The quiz led by Mr Goddard is always hard fought with some particularly challenging questions, and so the adults were pleased to have the children in their teams.  Ten pin bowling was great fun with Sam gaining a particularly high score.  Our resort Rep, Darryl, took his life into his own hands when he announced that the competition was boys against girls!

This year’s trip was a huge success and we saw great improvement in everyone’s skiing.  The snow conditions were excellent and we were fortunate to enjoy four days of sunshine.  We can now look forward to next year's trip to Saas Fee.
