Gifted and Talented Sport / Science Day 28th April 2009 |
|
Â

On 28th April, 13 Saint Felix students in Years 7 and 8 took part in a ‘kick start’ event to launch a very exciting project being run by the Waveney consortium of schools. The project, aimed at gifted and talented sportspeople aims to inspire young people into exploring the science behind sport. The day started with a presentation about the science behind sailing from Nick Asher, part of the Scandia Team GBR sailing team. Following the presentation there was a chance to explore the boat with Nick and pose for a few photographs!Â

In the second session, pupils had the opportunity to explore science in sport through various stations. They looked at projectiles and throwing, nutrition, heart rate elevation and exercise, equipment design and teamwork.

The morning has hopefully inspired all those students involved to be more enthusiastic about science in sport and the forthcoming investigations the children will be focusing upon. Owing to our strong swimming background at Saint Felix we are going to investigate blood lactate accumulation, training zones and also power output and contributions from leg kick and arm pull in swimming.Â
