At the end of April we were invited to the University of East Anglia to do a Salters’ Festival of Chemistry day. Four pupils went with Mrs. Stover on the day and these were Jack Manning, George Stannard, Zoe Corcoran and Charlotte Hicks. The Salters’ Festival started off with a forensic science challenge to find out who was the murderer by using two different tests to match up samples of different salts. There were several different schools that were all competing against each other. Our next challenge was titled, ‘Time with Slime’. This was a competition to see which school could make slime with the right consistency so that 10ml of it would flow through a funnel in exactly 1 minute. At once stage we managed to get 56 seconds, but when it came to testing it at the end in front of the judges, the slime sped through in 27 seconds, too fast to win us any prizes. To conclude the day at UEA we had a Chemical Magic Show where we were shown lots of amazing tricks that you could achieve through chemistry. It was a great experience.
