Cricket may have been the sport of the summer, but Saint Felix School in Southwold was fully focused on all things rugby recently, when it held its sixth pre-term rugby coaching clinic.
The two-day camp was enjoyed by some 140 Saint Felix pupils and local youngsters from the Southwold rugby club aged from 11 to 17.
Saint Felix School’s rugby teams are now preparing for a term of fixtures against the majority of public schools throughout Suffolk as well as a number of state schools at 1st XV, Under 16, 15, 13, 11 and 9 levels. As well as the 55 local fixtures the school's 1st and Under 15 squads are also involved in the Daily Mail’s National Competition - first round games will be played against Northgate High School in Ipswich and Framlingham College respectively.
Nick Brooker, Master in charge of rugby at the school and Tim O'Connell, senior boys' rugby coach, were delighted with how the weekend went: “It was a fantastic event and the youngsters who took part obviously enjoyed themselves too. It was really good preparation for the term ahead as we have lots of important games coming up,” said Nick.
Tim added: “140 children took part from Saint Felix and the local community. It was a great success and we will hold another senior rugby camp at Saint Felix at the end of the October half term.”
