1st XI Hockey team report - March 2010 |
|
Saint Felix 1st XI hockey team finished their season with two performances to be proud of this week. On Monday 15th March the squad faced a strong Sir John Leman side and lost 1-0. With many club level players in their team Saint Felix played a defensive game, limiting damage and battling hard to hold players out of the ‘D’. Coping with pressure, Danny Ash was named Player of the Match, saving goal after goal. Against more able opponents Saint Felix struggled to find space in attack and link passes between players.Â
The following day, Tuesday 16th March the same team arrived at Kirkley High School motivated to finish their season on a high. A different style of play was seen with the team saving their best performance to last. Imogen Wiltshire (Player of the Match) had a storming game in attack and kicked off the excitement with a reverse stick goal through the keeper’s legs. Slightly surprised by her own skills Imogen scored again later in the game, along with Chloe Stewart and Polly Davies to win the game 4-1. For the first time this season the girls passed the ball around the back of the pitch, from left to right and moved effectively into space to create opportunities. Kirkley certainly presented a challenge for the team and the score line does not reflect the pressure our defence was under. A fantastic way to finish the hockey season!
