Malvern Sports Tour – May 2010

Malvern Sports Tour – May 2010

The Year 8 girls, Mr Grunnell and Mrs Kingstone left Saint Felix in high spirits on Friday lunchtime with the minibus laden with bags and sporting equipment.  On arrival into Malvern we were welcomed and swept off to supper before being shown our dormitories for the weekend.  That evening the U13 Saint Felix team joined the Malvern boarders in a spot of cricket and rounders with the back drop of the Malvern hills and sheep bleating in the background.

To bright sunshine we were awoken on Saturday morning and took the opportunity to walk up the Malvern hills accompanied by Captain, the canine mascot.  Even the odd moaners were proud of themselves as they reached the summit and saw the view across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.  Countryside life was in abundance and stood as a stark contrast to the seaside life of Southwold.  A quick intensive swimming training session followed our walk before a fuel break at lunch.  Saturday afternoon saw Saint Felix beat Malvern in a well fought game of rounders (16 ½ -12 Win).  All batted well with the top scorer being Angela P di H with a grand total of 4 ½ rounders. Fielding was tight and better than in recent matches, Ellie Peel catching a player out in the deep field.  Player of the Match was Tasha L-N.  Integrating with their new friends and opponents, Saint Felix were treated to an evening of bowling and laser quest.  Maddie Churchill proved herself to be a fine markswoman whilst Megan Pleasants the Queen Pin of the group.

Sunday morning, and a team of sleepy looking girls emerged at breakfast.  Apparently ‘lights out’ didn’t necessarily mean sleep to many of our girls unused to the excitement of dorms and the temptation of midnight feasts.  A spot of rounders followed, after which the girls hit the tennis courts of some Wimbledon action.  Alice Ward, Angela P di H and Tasha L-N all aided their doubles partners to victories. In the heat all player began to dwindle and a cold shower break was called for.

An action packed weekend, but one enjoyed by all.  The Year 8 girls were a credit to the school and a pleasure to take away.  The Malvern girls will soon be visiting our seaside shores at the end of June for a similar weekend tour
