U13 Cricket v Royal Hospital School - 9th June 2010

Saint Felix U13 cricketers produced a magnificent performance to overcome Royal Hospital School on Wednesday, 9th June.

Losing the toss and being asked to bat caused no problems for the openers Matt Sutton and Tom Woodruff, who got the Saint Felix innings off to a good start.  Woodruff was unfortunate to be bowled for 10 but star of the show Sutton went on to score 61 not out off 58 balls - a school record for this age group.  Other batsmen contributed to the innings and many supported Sutton well.  Alex Farrands came to the crease at 87-4 and stole the show for the last couple of overs.  He hit three sixes and two fours on his way to a quick fire 38 not out off 20 balls in a partnership of 61 with Sutton to boost the Saint Felix Score to 141-4 off 20 overs.

After a quick tea the Saint Felix bowlers went about attacking the RHS batting line up.  With the damage already done at 16-6 the bowlers were rotated round to give others a go.  Once again the stand out performer was Matt Sutton, who bowled two overs, took four wickets and didn't concede a run off his bowling.  Other notable performances were Tom Woodruff (2-1), Chris Jackson (1-7) and Sam Peel (1-7) and RHS were bowled out for 41.  Man of the match was quite rightfully Matt Sutton.

"It was a great performance, we really got everything right today," said Master in Charge of Cricket, Tim O'Connell.  "Matt and Woody got us off to a good start and Matt batted with great skill and temperament.  To see him open the bowling like that too, with pace and bounce after batting for 20 overs, was fantastic and to take 4 wickets for no runs doesn't happen very often."
